From the Chair

As our confidence grows that the COVID-19 pandemic may be headed toward a low-level endemic state, it is time to consider where we stand and begin thinking about where we are going. The faculty of the Department of Dermatology is strong and covers all subspecialty areas. Our nurse practitioners have been working side-by-side with our faculty to deliver high-quality team-based care. In addition, our nurses, administrators, receptionists and schedulers bravely weathered the Covid storm and are deeply embedded in our culture. This team allows us to care for over 50,000 patients per year while providing rapid access appointments, teledermatology services, rural access to care at our Louisville Office, and a unique once per month Rolling Fork High School clinic for our Delta patients. At the same time we provide innovative educational offerings including a new grand rounds style “introduction to real patients” for our 2nd year medical students, monthly CME Grand Rounds with visiting professors from around the country, a springtime Update in Medical and Surgical Dermatology Symposium for dermatologists and a Fall Update Conference for Primary Care physicians. A new clinical trials unit led by Thy Huynh, MD is another exciting innovation! We are especially grateful for the continued support of the UMMC leadership, dermatologists and dermatopathologists from around the state, and our resident graduates from around the country. We strive every day to make you proud!
If you wish to contribute to the positive changes embraced by the UMMC Department of Dermatology do not hesitate to call Josh Clark (601-946-2967) or me (330-883-5302). We look forward to hearing from you!
